This list assumes that the email address has been set up for you by Gavial, and that your email address is john@mydomain.co.uk and your password is pass

- Download Thunderbird from www.mozilla.org
- You could download Firefox browser at the same time. This pair of programs are free, and can be used in place of Outlook and Explorer.
- To set up Thunderbird for collection of mail
- Start Thunderbird
- go to Tools>Account Settings
- go to Add Account
- Choose Email Account. Then Next
- Set Account name - eg john
- Set your name - eg John Smith
- Set your email address - eg john@mydomain.co.uk then Next
- The incoming server is of type pop
- Incoming server name is pop.mydomain.co.uk then Next
- Incoming User Name is john@mydomain.co.uk
- You don't enter a password at this stage
- Outgoing server. You should use the one provided by your ISP but you may instead use smtp.mydomain.co.uk
- Send your first mail as a test to Gavial
(This is sometimes necessary to get the server working.
If using smtp.mydomain.co.uk you will be asked for your password
and you should tick the box 'remember password' so you don't have to enter
it again. - If Gavial set up your email address for you, we will have sent you a test message.
- To collect mail in Thunderbird, click on Get Mail. If you haven't entered
your password, you will be asked to do it.
- Changing your password. THIS IS IMPORTANT
This has to be done in two places - on your own computer and on the server- ON THE SERVER
- Use your browser view www.mydomain.co.uk/myaccount
- Enter your username john@mydomain.co.uk and your password
- Click on 'Change password'
- Enter your new password. Remember it, because there is no way
of recovering it if lost. If you do forget it, Gavial will
issue you with a new temporary one. - Changes on the server take up to 10 minutes to activate,
So have a break.- While on this page, change your Anti Spam Threshold from 20 to about 5.
